Maertz’s series, Encyclopedia, explores the global and local, political and cultural influences that construct modern perceptions of knowledge. His color images look at the public culture of knowledge and art, questioning objectivity and purpose around the mythologies of history, science, and art in their corresponding public institutions and how these concepts and ideas are mediated for consumption in the public sphere. Maertz will lecture on Wednesday, November 3 at 7:30 pm (see accompanying press release).
