This project started on January 1, 2020. The goal was to make one portrait each day of the year, for a total of 366 portraits.

2020 turned out to be a very unusual year. The lockdowns resulting from a global pandemic meant that it became impossible to interact with people in person for most of the year. The progression of the portraits reflects the changes and challenges presented by 2020.

Up until March, the images reflect a normal year. From March-September, the images are all remote, made via FaceTime or with other video chat software. From September-December, there is a mix of remote and in-person images, although in-person images are framed from farther away and subjects are wearing masks.

What began as a simple portrait project turned into a project that documented a challenging and transformative year. I had the pleasure of getting to interact with many creative people whose work I admire. Many people referred their own friends to the project. By the end of the year, subjects were from 15 different states and 9 different countries.
