Artist Statement
This range of work is about showing moments of emphasis, fractions of life that most frequently are overlooked but contain the essence and meaning of the larger world when viewed earnestly. So often small things are lost in the greater context, little interactions are lost to the main event, one face is lost in a crowd, and they are not taken as examples of the entirety. It is a very compulsive reflex, reinforced by modern western media, to interpret the immensity of something as its importance. In reality, subtlety is much more indicative of the truth, and immensity is easily misused unless practiced very intentionally. All of my photos are candid and because of this, I think they capture that subtlety and intention as it appears, rather than how one would choose for it to be perceived. Being able to convey these stories by finding them active in the world is important to the integrity of the message. I find joy in finding them, in noticing them, and in making it a practice of being honest with the world and the moment through my interaction with it. I hope you do too.
