The works selected are part of a larger, ongoing series wherein I explore the concept of death and how we as humans interact with and navigate it. We as a culture tend to avoid literalistic dialogue around death and the finality it brings, often preferring to discuss the topic in terms of a theoretical afterlife or continuation of sorts. Despite this, we are constantly surrounded by reminders of it, both natural and man-made. From the event of roadkill and the visual reminder of loss that it leaves to the roadside memorial markers that line our daily commutes, death as a concept is conceptually pervasive in our day-to-day. It is something that is ever-present, yet emotionally skirted due to the heaviness of its nature. Through this series, I aim to visually explore the juxtaposition between the pervasiveness of death as a concept in our lives and the sheepishness that surrounds our discussions of the concept, highlighting manufactured and natural occurrences therein.
