Artist Statement
After my grandfather passed away in October 2019, my family traveled from the United States to the Philippines to lay his ashes to rest in his childhood village. This body of work was captured on that very trip starting in the lowlands of the Philippines, specifically Quezon City, and ending in the mountains of the Cordillera Administrative Region, which includes Baguio and Sagada. The journey depicted here encapsulates my ability to heal grief with new memories of an old place. Having grown up in the United States, it was a privilege to spend time in the space that nurtured my ancestor's roots.
