When I lived at the base of the Hollywood Hills, just a ten-minute walk from Hollywood Boulevard, tourists sometimes asked me for directions to the sign. If I had time, I would drive them up there. Living in Hollywood never got old. My run-down, rent-controlled apartment, yes. But Hollywood, never. In the last years I lived there, I found myself increasingly drawn to photographing the everyday Hollywood—not the movie version that all the tourists searched for in vain, but the version those of us who lived there recognized as home. This series was interrupted when I moved away from Los Angeles, away from Hollywood, in 2021. Because the series was never officially finished, it always had the name of “that untitled Hollywood project” in my mind. After I moved, I realized the name was perfect—an unintentional tribute to all the untitled film and television projects that may (or may not) make it to the screen.
