Foliage

I looked closer to home for photographs when my travel during covid was restricted. As I paid more attention to my wife’s garden and looked past the colorful flowers that attracted my eye, leaves, foliage and buds required more thought but showed promise. This series was photographed in situ without modifications except, of course, in the digital darkroom. The abstraction of black and white dramatized structure and subtle tonal graduations. Magical things started to appear: Hellebore leaves became a writhing mass of deep sea creatures, Equisetum a fireworks display. A whole new level of beauty and stimulated imagination resulted.
