Artist Statement
I love light, shadow and texture.
Add a dash of juxtaposition and you have my recipe for shooting an image.
I especially like shooting in the early morning when the shadows are not as sharp but I also appreciate the sharpness of midday shadows. My work these days is never premeditated but usually involves passing by a scene and recognizing its strength as a photograph. I am often amused by what I photograph.
I started making photographs at the age of 13 in the junior high photo lab. For many years I built a darkroom in bathrooms and closets in every place I lived. My hands often smelled like developer. I worked exclusively in black and white.
When digital photography finally became practical I gladly gave up chemicals. Yes there were trade offs, but immediately I saw the power of digital.
