Books are among my earliest memories. In Cuba, when I was a child, my Uncle Juan often allowed me to explore in his study, where I found a collection of exotic looking volumes. I still remember the smells and pleasures of that room, and the excitement of looking at the pictures in those architectural tomes. They helped me to imagine things and to travel places in my mind. These photographs spring from the same kind of curiosity I experienced in my uncle’s library, and are my attempt to uncover the variety of dramas contained in even the most ordinary book.
