Straight Shooting
July 3, 1997 - August 2, 1997
The Oregon Commission on Children and Families’ program, Straight Shooting, puts cameras and knowledge of their use in the hands of at-risk youth from Baker, Clackamas, Washington, Multnomah, Marion, and Malheur County areas – a tool for these youth to document the experiences affecting their lives. The program’s goals were to: provide these youth with a positive, empowering learning experience; cultivate a mentor-protégé relationship with professional photographers; and increase community awareness of the issues facing youth in our area through an exhibit of photographs taken by the youth.
Professional photographers team with Straight Shooting youth to teach photographic techniques and share their excitement about expression through the medium of photography. It is our hope that this exhibit can offer a valuable means of learning about a part of our community we need to better understand.
