Jane Alden Stevens
November 7, 2002 - November 30, 2002
Jane Alden Stevens' quiet black and white images of World War I memorials throughout Europe examine the ways in which these soldiers have been memorialized since the conflict ended 84 years ago. Using a pinhole panoramic camera, Stevens captures the spirit in which towns and villages chose to remember their friends and family members. In some cases, 40% of a village's population was lost to the war. "The Lost Generation" is still remembered today, as many people still make pilgrimages to the battlefields and cemeteries of the former Western Front.
