Steve Fitch
February 5 - 28, 2004
Steve Fitch’s photographs of abandonment on the high plains of Montana, North and South Dakota, Wyoming, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado, Oklahoma, New Mexico and Texas weave tales of past lives stopped through time or circumstance, slowly deteriorating until all that’s left are faint glimpses of human interaction with these physical structures and spaces. Abandoned homes, farms, schools, churches, bars, and even honky tonks with the occasional ripped couch, peeling wallpaper, and concave ceiling each hold stories and are filled with evidence of history Fitch discovers and captures in his haunting large format color photographs.
