Gregg Segal
None of the Above
September 5 - 29, 2013
Despite our best-intentioned efforts to overlook them, first impressions often influence our expectations of how others may think, act, or what they may believe. In his engaging portrait series, None of the Above, artist Gregg Segal asks viewers to test these hypotheses and literally "vote" for each individual's political persuasion based on nothing but appearance. While in the gallery, visitors will have the opportunity to complete an informal quiz and to decide whether each American voter in these larger-than-life color prints is a Democrat, Republican, Independent, or none of the above. Undoubtedly, more than a few surprises will emerge once the votes are "graded" against the artist's master key. As Segal points out, "we tend to think we know who our political foes and allies are. But do we?"
