“In this body of work I hope to reveal light in the darkness of being. The pictures explore the mystery of life and time passing. There is little beyond the everyday, ordinary drama of things.”
Using the distinctive plastic lens of his Diana camera, Rich Rollins has composed a vast collection of intimate black-and-white prints that focus on the simple yet profound moments that surround our natural cycle of life and death. Libra resists a typical narrative structure and eschews the linear passage of time, instead revealing “the ineffable language of seeing, at times more felt than understood.”
Rich Rollins is a photographer and arts educator based in Portland, Oregon, where he taught photography at Marylhurst University for over 27 years. He received his MFA in photography from Arizona State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Vermont. Rollins has exhibited at the Portland Art Museum, The Art Gym at Marylhurst University, Gallery 114, and Mark Woolley Gallery in Portland, Oregon; LightBox Photographic in Astoria, Oregon; and the Fleming Museum at the University of Vermont, among many other venues. This is his third solo show at Blue Sky.
