I have been photographing for many years and I remain intrigued by how the photograph is different from the subject in front of the lens. I know this six year old thoroughly. I am her mother and I have been photographing her since birth. Meeting Gillian through the photographs and meeting her in person are two different experiences. Photographs can look like life and approximate life, but are never really living and breathing. Gillian is more than the sum of the photographs, and I find it a continuous challenge trying to package her in film.
