Artist Statement
I am curious how photographs function metaphorically. At such a heightened moment in history, everything feels charged. I sense that I am seeing a reflection of the time in pictures that directly and indirectly evoke the moment we are in.
Artist Bio
Barbara Gilson is a photographer living in Portland, Oregon. In 1987 she received her MFA in Photography from Arizona State University. For the past 10 years, she has been studying herbalism and this work is weaved into some of her more recent photography. She is married to Rich Rollins, photographer and long time Portland photography teacher. They have two daughters.
