Doris Fiedrich
Artist Statement
During a pandemic we must seek solitude to stay away from others. We each transform into solitary figures in the landscape, even when we are in small groups. The river, the beach, the forest sustain us while we keep the required distance. Where does our world end and theirs begin? Fortunately, Vancouver’s urban nature provides much needed space. We seek her closeness as we must isolate and may discover a new bond with our own nature, with who we are, while bringing to light our instinctive state of introspection.
Artist Bio
Doris Fiedrich is a photographer based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Her recent work focuses on individuals or groups interacting with the urban landscape, particular the river and the bay that form a large part of the city. She frequently chooses black and white or desaturated colour to enhance a sense of melancholy or moodiness of her work.
