Artist Statement

I first heard news of the coronavirus early in January when it struck China. Since then my usual life has been redirected to avoid catching the disease, and by mostly simple actions to safeguard the health of others.  In time I started to encounter scenes in my daily life that were visual metaphors for the news I was hearing and what I was feeling. The rainy days, gray skies and gloomy light of winter and early spring in the Northwest added to the overall sense of a slow tragedy unfolding.

Artist Bio

I started making photographs when I was 14 years old, and have managed to continue practicing the craft since then. I studied photojournalism at Michigan State University and art photography with Robert Heinecken at UCLA.
