Artist Statement
During the stay-at-home order, my ‘gym’ has morphed the square mile of my neighborhood. Walking alone, I occupied myself by looking more deeply at the familiar around me. Happily, new additions arrived: lawn and window signs, then sidewalk drawings and window displays. At first, the primary message was encouragement, then amusements, next gratitude, eventually justice. I walked on chalked games and children’s pictures, even a birth announcement. Pandemic poems took over the poetry boxes, flags and banners flew above. I found myself drawn to shoot the homemade, the kind, the clever, the unique.
Artist Bio
I always loved art museums and drawing so my mother sent me to painting classes while I was still in grade school. Grown up, I turned to textiles. Now my main visual art creations are photographs, though I’ve mainly shared my work with only family and friends, especially an almost-annual calendar. I’m pleased to have this opportunity to participate in this virtual show and hopefully share more widely.
