Read Along with Us!
Bringing you the Blue Sky Book Club...
Open to our members and to the public, we invite you to read along with us! Each month we’ll introduce a book or an article that inspires thought and conversation around art, creative practice, socio-political issues, and other current events. While not always connected specifically to the work on view at Blue Sky, our intention is to bring forth themes and ideas that mirror the concerns of today’s practicing artists.
And, we’ll offer different opportunities to engage with us or to connect with others: at a book signing, or at an in-person “coffee and conversation,” or at a writer’s presentation, or via a zoom gathering.
To launch our Blue Sky Book Club, we invite you to a “meet and greet” with the activist and photographer, Richard Brown, as he shares some words about his recently published memoir, This Is Not For You, (OSU Press), our inaugural “Book Club Book.”
Brown, a Black Portlander, has spent decades working to bridge the divide between police and the Black community. His memoir brings readers with him into the streets with fellow activists, into squad cars with the rank-and-file, and to regular meetings with mayors and police chiefs. This is a book about how and why to become an engaged, activist citizen, and how activists can stay grounded, no matter how deeply they immerse themselves in the work. Brown is an avid photographer who has been involved with the photo community for years.
Limited copies of the book will be available for purchase at Blue Sky. The book is also available at Third Eye Books , as well as Powell’s and other online retailers.
