2019 Jurors:
Melanie Flood (b. New York) is an artist and curator based in Portland, OR. She holds a BFA (2001) in Photography from the School of Visual Arts in New York and an MFA (2017) in Contemporary Art Practice from Portland State University. Since 2008, she has directed Melanie Flood Projects, which began as an artists’ salon located in her Brooklyn residence. In 2014, the gallery relaunched in downtown Portland, Oregon. Her projects and work have been featured in Art in America, The New York Times, ARTnews, New York Magazine, zingmagazine, Photo District News, among others. She has exhibited solo shows at Fourteen30 Contemporary, in Portland, OR (2018), Autzen Gallery in Portland, OR (2017), and Carl & Sloan Contemporary in Portland, OR (2016) along with two-person exhibitions at Ditch Projects in Springfield OR (2018) and Newspace Center for Photography in Portland, OR (2014). Flood is the recipient of a Regional Arts & Culture Council Project Grant (2014) and a Precipice Fund Award (2016). She is represented by Fourteen30 Contemporary.
Terry Novak is the Executive Director at Photographic Center Northwest, an educational institution dedicated to the photographic arts, located in Seattle, WA. Through classes and workshops; a 53-credit Certificate Program; 5-6 exhibitions annually; diverse public programs; and comprehensive photographic facilities PCNW fosters dialogue in the region through the global language of today and serves a diverse community of practitioners, educators, students, collectors, and the general public. Novak’s current work focuses on partnerships, grants, public programs, and fundraising events that foster financial support and leverage resources for photographers, significant photography, and PCNW. Novak has been a portfolio reviewer for PhotoAlliance in San Francisco and PhotoPlus in New York, and has served as a grant panelist for The Washington State Arts Commission. She continues to work with local government and organizations to elevate the photographic arts in the Pacific Northwest. Novak is co-chair of the Capitol Hill Arts District where her work focuses on advocacy and policy that supports affordable spaces and resources for artist and arts organizations; she is also a member of the Fundraising for the Arts Task Force. She received her BFA in photography from Columbia College Chicago and her MFA in arts administration from Seattle University.
