Photography and Social Practice Panel Discussion
in conjunction with Wendy Ewald’s This Is Where I Live, led by Portland artist Emily Fitzgerald

This is Where I Live is a collective photographic portrait of Israel and the West Bank as seen by the people who call this region home. From 2010–2013 photographer Wendy Ewald worked with a total of fourteen different communities, providing point-and-shoot digital cameras and mentoring participants as they visually documented their lives. Ewald’s collaborators included shopkeepers in the Jerusalem market, Gypsy children in the Old City, elderly Palestinian women in East Jerusalem, high-tech workers in Tel Aviv, and students in military academies and elementary schools. The final exhibition includes nearly 400 images, all of which are testaments to the vitality and variety of the region’s cultural landscape as well as the multifaceted nature of Jewish identity.
