Refocusing: a free Salon-from-anywhere

  • Blue Sky Gallery 122 Northwest 8th Avenue Portland, OR, 97209 United States (map)

The West of Us

“The West” is a particularly American notion, simultaneously defining and defying a sense of Americanness. Who frames our assumptions of the West? What happens when we see the American West through the lens of a white woman in the early twentieth century, or a black man in the early twenty-first century? How do gender, race, and temporality challenge or deepen our own image of what the West might be?

Join us on Wednesday, April 28, at 5:00pm Pacific time, as Lois Leveen leads a discussion of the American West in photographs by Johnnie Chatman and Lora Webb Nichols.

REFOCUSING is a Free Salon-From-Anywhere program from Blue Sky Gallery, in which we explore ways to redefine and strengthen community by engaging online with photographs and with each other.
