There, Here, War
This summer, the United States officially ends its longest war, having spent more than $1 trillion dollars on the conflict over twenty years. But the true cost of any war is immeasurable, a toll taken on soldiers, civilians, the environment, and civilization. How do photographers, directing our gaze anywhere from the monumental and motivational to the mundane, capture that cost?
Join us on Wednesday, July 28, at 5:00pm Pacific time, as Lois Leveen leads a discussion of photographs from our current exhibitions: Proxy War, in which Justyna Badach recreates images from propaganda videos created by the American and Russian military and by ISIS; and American Interiors, in which M L Casteel photographs the insides of cars driven by U.S. veterans.
REFOCUSING is a Free Salon-From-Anywhere program from Blue Sky Gallery, in which we explore ways to redefine and strengthen community by engaging online with photographs and with each other.
