Artist Statement

I grew up in West Virginia in the 1940's & 50's, a time when school segregation was the rule. It ended in 1957 when I was in the 10th grade. I was a product of my time and place.

For the country, 2020 & 2021, have been the time of COVID, yes, but also the time of the George Floyd killing and the rise of the Black Lives Matter movement. For me 2020 & 2021 have been a personal confrontation with racism and white privilege. For me it is a time of hope.
