Artist Statement
The Power of Death & Life
I took Route 99 because I wanted to see the effect of the fires near Ashland, Oregon. The destruction was absolutely devastating. Whole areas were reduced to rubble, ashes. No walls stood above the block foundations outlining what used to be homes.
I came back to the same area to see that new homes began rising from the ashes. People have strong hopes that they can rebuild their lives and communities.
I am juxtaposing two images black/white and color to reveal the contrast of before and after.
