The history of American music begins with the Blues & the Blues begin in the Mississippi Delta. The Delta in Mississippi is an area rich in history but poor in many other ways. The Blues were (are) a reaction to racism & oppression which are in the process of erasure. My images are from my book Mississippi, on the Blues Trail. My focus was to search out Blues clubs or "juke joints" still in operation or in ruins, in order to document what remains of an important part of American cultural & racial history.
