Artist Statement
Paper Cuts is an anxious love letter to the flora found in the changing light and climate of the forests within the Puget Sound region in western Washington. It is about the thing itself, removed. Images of native plants from Cascadia’s urban and wild forests are translated into cut paper impressions, then rephotographed. Space is offered to consider the ubiquitous characters of the Pacific Northwest forests and (diminishing) biodiversity through artificial silhouettes, light, shadow, and absence.
