Artist Statement
These images are part of my ongoing series entitled Built. The inspiration for this work comes from my observations of built structures in our environment. I’m drawn to their qualities of beauty in shape, line and color; the physical place they occupy in the landscape; and their place in time at the moment I photograph them. Some of these images depict an environment under deconstruction, abandonment, or simply in stasis - with the marks of its own history showing. In others, a new structure is in progress, pointed toward a future state not yet realized. I’m interested in the themes these pictures may suggest: time passing; presence and absence; entropy and growth. And as a way of seeing, the photographs themselves are “built” with an intention to bring forth an intersection between visual abstraction and a view into reality.
