Artist Statement:
“Agency is frequently employed to give the individual a sense of control or at least influence over a particular situation. Its use may be intended to promote change or even to maintain the status quo. The situation may be physical and/or psychological in nature. These five photographs represent agency in various ways and in various settings.
• Isolation: In contrast to the man in the park, this woman blowing bubbles over the Columbia River, lifted her spirits alone, her back to the walkers along the River.
• Along for the Ride: Finally, the man taking his child to school by bike avoids both car and mass transit—and the creation of pollution as well.”
