Michelle Swanson

Artist Statement:

“My project, The Windshield Wanderlust, is a collection of photos taken from inside my car as I move through my local and sometimes greater community. I’m drawn to beautiful, colorful images that often highlight the juxtaposition of natural beauty and urban life. These photos show how the agency of humankind can sometimes clash with that of Mother Nature, and sometimes, surprisingly, are harmonious.”

Artist Bio:

Michelle has carried a camera with her since elementary school and more than 30 years later, she is still never without one. Michelle has worked as photographer off and on for the last 15 years; as a wedding, portrait, family, and birth photographer; and at a dance studio as the staff photographer for several years, taking dance portraits and the more challenging recital images. Michelle has enjoyed the opportunity to teach basic photography classes to middle and high school students in Beaverton. Before Covid, Michelle was an active member of Photo Club PDX in Portland, and explored many different kinds of experimental photography. When not taking photographs for her various projects, Michelle is also a baton twirling coach, an avid reader, embroiderer, gardener, enthusiastic plant mom, and is thrilled to finally live close to the ocean, allowing her to photograph her favorite landmark, Haystack Rock.”
