Gordon Stettinius

Gordon Stettinius has a knack for capturing the quirky side of human nature. His "collected musings" and "miscellaneous snaps" recall small-town America, even when taken in mid-Manhattan, and their voyeuristic feel is both endearing and intriguing. He writes, "My work, then, is a diary of sorts, though somewhat bent towards effect. And beauty. And the unusual." Stettinius is also publisher of the Minneapolis-based web photography journal, "Eye Caramba."

Generally speaking it seems we spend the majority of our time, er…. speaking generally. What else to say. My work, then, is a diary of sorts, Though somewhat bent towards effect. And beauty. And the unusual. The people in my photographs are my friends and family. Mostly. And then there are a few anonymous collaborators, something which just cannot be helped at times. However my reason for making/doing/acting, in these photographs and otherwise, is to raise questions about religion and magic and sex and transformation. This listing is not meant to be exclusive of other burning ideas nor is it in any particular order. Sometimes there is a punch line. Sometimes not. And then there is, of course, usually a breakdown between my intentions and my inventions but the images remain as byproduct despite my interference.

More simply, I believe that bad hair is an issue of deeper significance than is generally believed and I am a lover of strange dreams and other conspicuous treats but finally, I generally resist the temptation of attempt to make my own beliefs understood because one lost soul is enough to have on my consciences should I be convincing and dreadfully wrong besides.
