“La Playa” is Shawn Records’ series of intimate family-scapes, color photographs of his family and their environments taken during one summer. As a group of people deal together with a recent death, and an imminent death, his photos depict a time when small gestures and objects of everyday life take on significant weight. The universal elements of human nature and spirit, of family and daily life, are exposed in subtle and careful ways, allowing the viewer to bring their own history and understanding of life transitions to the photos.
