Relics
January 2, 2009 - February 1, 2009
In Relics, Brad Temkin has photographed remnants of humanity amidst vast, stunning landscapes. These cast-offs become sculpture imbued with meaning and history. They are given gravity and significance, a new life framed within his lens. Temkin says, “Relics began with my interest in found art. My approach builds on the sculptural foundation that integrates the object and the landscape. These forms exude an energy that transcends originating intention, becoming beautiful and monumental “earth works” in their own right. They are visceral reminders of where we have been and what we are.” The large-scale prints also support the grand scale of these forms and the notion of the photograph becoming an object within itself.
