Artist Statement

My photographs are literal transformations. Made from the ash of the Oregon wildfires, I have transformed the burned trees into recorded images of the forests themselves. The memory of a forest is held captive on sheets of glass accentuating both the fragility of life and the precarious position we are in due to climate change. The carbon print process encourages the images to tear and frill on the edges creating unique works. My intention is to transform the devastation from the sick sensation of a yellow gray sky to one of beauty.
